Energy Saving Tips
Energy bills can sky rocket in the winter months. With Michigan's extreme cold, your home goes into overdrive. Here's a couple of tips to help save you energy and
money during the last few months of winter.
Use the Sun!
When the sun is out open your south-facing window curtains during the day to allow the warmth to fill your home. Be sure to close them by night time.
Be aware of your thermostat.
Setting the temperature of your home back 10-15 degrees while you are asleep can save you up to 10% annually on your heating and cooling bills. A programmable thermostat
can help make this task easier.
Reverse your ceiling fan.
Hot air rises, so reversing it will bring the warmth back down to floor level.
Upgrade your windows.
On average your home can lose about 30% of its heat through leaks in your windows. Installing storm windows can help reduce your heat loss. For a more budget friendly
alternative, use a plastic film to help with the draft.
